Lila's memorial was created on 3/4/2012.
Lila the dachshund, a career mouser, a superior security analyst, and a smart, wonderful, sweet companion, died February 21, 2012, at her home in Tacoma, WA. She was 12.

Born in Parkland, WA, in 1999, Lila was identified early as a hunting enthusiast. Her abilities as a retriever were also extraordinary. She began her career pursuing a series of stuffed monkey toys, ones that made monkey noises, when she caught them. Fortunately for all, there were no monkeys in our Tacoma backyard.

Tiring of the monkeys, Lila took an interest in mice and rats -- living and toy. At age 3, Lila dispatched 2 1/2 live rats (2 adults and 1 juvenile), pulling each by its head from a wood pile, and executing it with a quick, deadly shake. Throughout her life, Lila engaged family participation in her daily practice of hunting toy vermin -- in blankets, under the sofa and in papers -- until four days before her death.

In addition to her hunting prowess, she was devoted to protecting her home – no unfamiliar noise, movement or individual escaped her impressive bark.

Above all, Lila had a lovely personality and sense of humor. She was great fun, strived to be a very, very good dog. Lila was always available for cuddles and kisses. Sadly, numerous health issues made her life a tough one too; she bore her problems with strength and grace. And it is important to note that Lila would not have lived beyond age 2 without veterinary expertise and compassion. We are are especially thankful to Chambers Creek Veterinary Hospital in Lakewood, WA.

Lila is survived by her brother, littermate, and beloved life companion, Zepple, Tacoma, WA, and may be preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Rosie, of Parkland, WA.

Cremation has taken has taken place. A memorial service is to be arranged at a later date. Contributions may be made in her memory to WSU College of Veterinary Medicine, the ASPCA, or a charity of choice.
