The VALS preparation training course at WSU is a one-day course in the Veterinary Applied Laparoscopic Training (VALT) laboratory. This course is not required for the VALS program, but offered to facilitate training. Please visit www.valsprogram.org for details and options for training courses.

This course is by appointment only. Please contact the WSU VALS center for an appointment prior to paying! Or email Dr. Fransson at bfransso@vetmed.wsu.edu

Prior to training the participant is offered a simulated "pre-training" (not eligable for certification) VALS test. After training the participant has the option to take the certifying VALS test (see the item VALS test). However, it is recommendable that participants perform additional spaced individual practice in order to meet the performance goals, to maximize the chance for a passing score on the VALS test.

The course is organized as follows:
8-9 Lecture; Organizational and demonstration; simulated VALS test.
9-10 Session 7 (intra and extracorporeal suture training proctored by Dr Fransson
10-11 Rest
11-12 Session 8; independent practice
12-1 Rest.
1-2 Session 9; Proctored suture training
2-3 Rest
3-4 Session 10 independent practice
4-5 Follow up with Dr Fransson.

This organization provides the participant a little time to internalize the training between sessions. 8 hours of continuous practice would be counter-productive.
